Star USB printers – important information on the Windows update

Image
Star has discovered that recent Windows updates have removed the ability of normal user accounts to access a printer driver installed with an admin account. This results in the printer not being able to return status to the Windows host. For Star USB printers, including the Star TSP100, this means that the command emulator cannot be invoked to translate the data from the application to the required print data. If a Star printer with a USB interface receives raw data, this can cause the cutter and/or cash drawer connected to the printer to be triggered without printing.

Star has escalated the problems caused by the Windows update to Microsoft. The company expects them to be fixed in a future patch that will be available very soon. However, Star currently has no information on exactly when this will happen.

At this stage, three temporary fixes are available from Star until a full fix is available – full details here: https://star-emea.com/star-usb-printers-windows-update/
