About Seiko

Seiko Instruments has a long history and tradition. It all began with Kintaro Hattori, who opened a shop in Tokyo in 1881 to sell and repair watches. This was followed in 1937 by the establishment of Daini Seikosha (now Seiko Instruments). By the time it was renamed Seiko Instruments in 1983, the company had perfected its proven technologies for precision wristwatches. The quest for perfection became the company's philosophy, and from around 1982 it increasingly specialised in the development of printers.
